Milton Myers received his B.F.A. in Dance from the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri in Kansas City. He was a founding member, performer and Assistant to the Director with Joyce Trisler Danscompany, and has performed with the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater and Fred Benjamin. Milton, upon the death of Joyce Trisler became artistic director of the Joyce Trisler Danscompany from 1979 until 1986. He has taught for Ballet Hispanico, New Danish Dance Theater, Les Ballet de Montreal, BatDor, Kansas City Ballet, Batsheva, and Ballet Stagium in Sao-Paulo, Brazil. He is a professional instructor for the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, and has been an instructor and resident choreographer for the Philadelphia Dance Company (Philadanco) since 1989.
Milton has been an artist-in-residence at the Julliard School, North Carolina School of the Arts, Brown University and Howard University in Washington, D.C. Milton has been a faculty member at Tisch School of the Arts at NYU, City College of New York and the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Currently he is a faculty member at Marymount Manhattan College and the Fordham University Ailey Program. He is preparing to return to Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival where he has been Director of the Modern Traditions Workshop for over fifteen years. One of the few qualified Horton teachers, Milton teaches extensively throughout Europe, Israel, South America, Canada, and the United States. He has taught at several prominent festivals, including the Vienna Tanz-Wochen, the Koln Summer Academy, Mudra-for Maurice Besart, Florence Summer Academy, Copenhagen-Dansens Hus and the Amsterdam Theater School in Holland. Milton has choreographed for the Trisler Danscompany, Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, Ailey II, Philadanco, Dayton Contemporary, Cleo Parker Robinson, Dallas Black, Kansas City Ballet and David Taylor Dance Theatre. His choreography has earned him recognition and funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council, CAPS Choreography Award (funded by the Rockefeller Foundation, Philip Morris New Works fund, Dance USA/Philadelphia Dance Alliance and Jacob's Pillow.
